CARRY NOTHING: Visited Countries

It's a sad fact that there's almost nothing so damaging to true travel as advice is. And yet, I, like thousands of others I'm sure, find myself almost permanently seeking it out. From the very moment I decide to go somewhere I ask questions, read articles, whole books even. I watch documentaries, films, adverts, I surf the web to make sure I know the best places to go and the best things to do. And all the time I worry because I know that at best I will just end up disappointed by what I might never get to see. But at worst I could end up with a trip that's full of nothing but other peoples stories. And for me there isn't a more depressing thought in the world.

I have travelled all over Europe for many years, seen the sites, stayed in all the touristy places. But now for the first time I'm planning to step a little outside my own comfort zone and go travelling through the Indian Sub-continent. The trip is the catalyst for this blog. I want to try to take a look at places I would never normally see, and I will try, here, to record everything I can. Want went well and what did not. what I wish I had with me and what I wish I'd never brought.

I am an amateur, a novice. Under equipped with little to no knowledge, starting from scratch with nothing but a wall map and the internet. But I am going to hurl myself at this with all the energy I have.

What I hope to get from this is a collection of stories that might never have happened.

What I hope you get from this is the inspiration to go somewhere I haven't been, and to write about it. Or, failing that rather lofty goal, a few minutes entertainment reading about how I fell down a well.
